Founded in 1988 as a technology development and consulting firm, VST initially focused on integrating complex systems, embedded firmware, and advanced materials to make more efficient use of available technology and information. We have a foundation in electrical engineering and a history of collaboration with companies like Apple Computer. Yep, here’s Steve Jobs giving us a shout-out in his 1999 MacWorld keynote for the VST Firewire hard drive as part of his announcement of the newly invented Firewire technology.

Notably, we reverse-engineered the widely used coffee brew chart, discovered critical errors in its calculations, and rebuilt it from the ground up - ensuring that brewers could rely on accurate, data-driven guidance. At the core of VST’s contributions are two pioneering inventions: the coffee-specific refractometer and the precision filter basket. These tools allow users to quantify the exact percentage of dissolved coffee solids in their espresso, providing objective data that transforms brewing from guesswork into science. The precision filter basket complements this by ensuring consistent flow and extraction, addressing key variables that affect shot quality.
